Job Description Summary:
Columbian College is GW’s largest and most comprehensive academic unit. This position is for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental nuclear physics, who will manage George Washington’s contribution (through the Jefferson Lab Group, PIs Dr. Axel Schmidt, Dr. William Briscoe, Dr. Igor Strakovsky) to the K-Long Facility (KLF) upgrade and experiments at Jefferson Lab. The candidate will help to coordinate the development of software and simulation tools, including building an implementation of KLF in the Hall D simulation suite, tuning Monte Carlo even generators, developing reconstruction tools, and organizing KLF’s software repository. The candidate will also be asked to develop new physics channels for consideration and to assist with the Jefferson Lab’s on-going experimental efforts as part of the CLAS and GlueX collaborations. The candidate will be based either at the VSTC (Virginia Campus) or at Jefferson Lab (Foggy Bottom, DC) as needed.
Duties:
  • KLF Software Repository Management

  • Implementing KLF into Hall D Simulation Framework

  • Developing Event Reconstruction Tools for a pulsed, un-tagged beam.

  • Developing a prospective analysis channel for KLF data.

  • Assisting with other group efforts at GlueX and CLAS.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics, or a related field.
  • Software development experience, particularly with Monte Carlo simulations.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
