Research Description
The University of Minnesota Neutrino Group has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate position. Qualified Candidates are encouraged to apply.
The UMN Neutrino Group participates in a variety of experiments, including DUNE, T2K/Super-K, NOvA, and the Fermilab short baseline program. The group currently plays a leading role in the novel DUNE-PRISM oscillation analysis and associated detector movement system hardware, and is also heavily involved in DUNE far detector construction and analysis, including the development of machine learning techniques to translate near detector events to the far detector while accounting for detector systematic uncertainties. In the current generation of experiments, the UMN group plays a leading role in the joint fit of T2K beam neutrinos and Super-K atmospheric neutrinos, with first results set to be released later this year.
Opportunities also exist to participate in future detectors that may be located in the DUNE far detector hall. The UMN group is participating in the development of an integrated photon detector + field cage (APEX) for far detector 3, and the group is leading the long-baseline analysis for a potential water-based liquid scintillator far detector 4 (Theia).
The successful applicant is expected to participate in a variety of hardware, software and physics analysis activities with a considerable amount of freedom in choosing research topics. It is anticipated that the position will be based at the University of Minnesota â“ Twin Cities campus with travel to various locations required for research, including Fermilab, CERN, and J-PARC/Kamioka. Inquiries should be sent to Prof. Michael Wilking .
