Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Water Institute at the University of Alabama seeks applications for a postdoctoral position for a project advancing water modeling and forecasting. The postdoctoral researcher will be embedded in the Alabama Water Institute. Additional collaboration with faculty throughout the University of Alabama campus is anticipated.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in a closely aligned discipline to the research needs and have a strong record of achievement in the noted research areas.

The initial appointment will be for one year. Renewal will be contingent upon demonstrated research productivity and availability of funds. The Alabama Water Institute will establish a regular annual structured merit-based evaluation.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, applied hydrology or closely related field is required. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed before the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Applicants are expected to have strong abilities programming in Python, applying machine learning, performing geospatial analyses, advancing hydrologic and systems models, and/or processing remote sensing images.


Preferred Qualifications: Candidates will have a high level of interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with academics, scientists, practitioners, and students. Further, candidates will demonstrate excellent capacities for personal responsibility, taking initiative, original thinking, and communication skills.
