Job Description:
The Office of First-Year and Student Transitions (FYrST) is responsible for courses associated with new, transfer, and transitioning student academic needs. The various courses within FYrST are the following:
1) Study Skills and Time Management Courses (UC 1100, 1101) focus on the specific knowledge and skills necessary for students to be successful at the college level.
2) Student Transition Seminars (UC 1500) are designed to assist students transitioning to a new experience/phase in their academic life.
3) Learning Community seminars (UC 1900), are designed to assist in the engagement of first-year students and serve as the central course for the learning community. The purpose of the seminar is to help students make a positive transition into the university by providing them with information regarding disciplinary norms, academic expectations of specific colleges and programs, and research and creative opportunities at Ohio University.
Instructors:
1) serve as a role model, referral, and resource to students;
2) provide contact information to students; communicating availability and encouraging students to contact them for assistance;
3) in case of an emergency or planned absence, make arrangements for a substitute instructor;
4) provide a complete syllabus on the first meeting of class and grade assignments in a timely manner;
5) submit final grades online by the university deadline; and
6) participate in assessment processes to determine efficacy of the courses and course materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree, and educational/work experience similar to focus of learning community assigned (where applicable).
