Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application. This is an essential service position (Required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption).

What we offer:

The salary for this position starts at $4,199.00 per month.

For the purposes of FLSA, this position has been determined to be non-exempt from (eligible for) overtime under FLSA.

Brief Description:

Duties may include, but are not limited to: serves as the first-line contact with victims of crime and emergencies, provides assistance, information and direction to all members and visitors of the campus community; position patrols by vehicle and on foot all properties owned or leased by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to detect and deter criminal activity. 

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol by vehicle and on foot all properties owned or leased by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to detect and deter criminal activity, and to promote a sense of safety/security.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of criminal activity. Enforce federal, state, and local laws from petty offenses to felonies and arrest, release, or incarcerate offenders. Enforce traffic, parking, and campus regulations.
  • Govern vehicle and pedestrian traffic through enforcement of the Colorado Motor Vehicle Code and campus traffic regulations.  Enforcement is carried out by the issuing of summonses, verbal and/or written warnings.
  • Conduct interviews and interrogations of victims, complainants, witnesses and suspects within the guidelines of current legal practices.
  • Write reports documenting investigations of criminal and/or suspicious activity for actual or suspected violations of laws and institutional rules and regulations. Prepare cases for presentation in municipal, county, and district courts. Be prepared to testify as to their accuracy.
  • Contact, assist and control intoxicated, assaulting, and resistive citizens using verbal skills and physical restraints. Respond to and settle verbal and physical disputes in manner to prevent future problems.
  • Provide assistance and information to the campus community and its visitors in the areas of crime prevention, personal safety and general security. To approach persons who engage in inappropriate or illegal behavior and modify behavior through education or enforcement.
  • Maintain and demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of laws and practices. Maintain current in firearms, non-lethal arrest, control tactics, first aid and CPR.
  • Respond to alarms of intrusion, fire and maintenance as well as any other internal security systems.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Candidates must understand, and comply with the following:
  • Must pass pre-employment background check to include criminal and driver history, physical, psychological and polygraph examinations, credit history screen
  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts to include holidays, weekends, and semester breaks.

  • Campus Security Authority
  • Designated as an essential service position
  • Must be willing and able to report to the campus in response to emergency situations
  • Must be able and willing to lift, push, carry and pull up to 100 lbs.

Tentative Search Timeline:

  • The potential dates for interviews with the search committee will be the week of October 18, 2021.
  • The potential dates for interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be the week of October 25, 2021.
  • The potential employee start date is November 22, 2021.

Qualifications

 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • P.O.S.T. certifiable within three months of hire
  • Position must successfully pass the UCCS PD Field Training Program within one year of hire
  • One year of college coursework (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) OR one year of law enforcement experience appropriate to the assignment OR current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification may substitute for the one year of college course work.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age; have no felony convictions or domestic violence convictions
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and not have acquired more than seven (7) points in the last year and or no more than twelve (12) points within the last two years on a driver's license
  • No alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and no repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current P.O.S.T. certification
