Job Summary 
Performs journeyman level work in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service, and repair of University gas and plumbing related systems.  This position includes the responsibility of certification, inspection and repair of gas lines.  This position is considered essential personnel and may require storm duty.  This position will require continued education credits to maintain the certificates required for gas line inspection.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Maintains, repairs and cleans sewers inside and outside of buildings.  
  • Repairs, installs and maintains all piping systems on campus used for transferring gas, water, or chemicals. This includes fire sprinkler systems and landscape irrigation systems.
  • Maintains, repairs water lines and valves to include copper, steel, duct iron, cast iron, and plastic. 
  • Repairs and maintains fire hydrants owned by University.
  • Maintains, inspects, installs, services and repairs gas lines in and outside of buildings as recommended by the American Public Gas Association (APGA).  Maintains all inspection and repair records for gas equipment as recommended by the APGA and the state of Mississippi.
  • Maintains, repairs and installs plumbing related equipment such as, urinals, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, water heaters, dish machines, water closets, flush valves, faucets, and mixing valves.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years plumbing related experience and/or training. Driver's License. APGA Certifications.

    • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
    • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
    • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
    • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
    • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
    • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

    Preferred Qualifications  
    Three (3) to five (5) years working with plumbing and gas related equipment.
