Job Description:

The PA will function under the supervision of the Medical Director of the UF Health Department of Urology. The PA will provide support to the physician in the care of patients. This includes management of patients with both medical and surgical problems. The incumbent will coordinate care of new and return patients in their scheduled clinic. PA will compile and evaluate all patient data including medical records, procedure, imaging and test results, formulate, recommend and initiate appropriate treatment plan. The PA will provide advanced and fully independent care for the complete spectrum of urologic adult patient conditions. Provide face-to-face, urologic care to patients including interviews, physical examinations, assessment/ planning patient care, performance of office-based procedures (including diagnostic cystoscopies, surveillance cystoscopies for patients with bladder cancer, ureteral stent removal, complex urethral catheter placement, penile injections, intravesical therapies, amongst others). Order blood work, radiologic testing and medical prescriptions. Provide telehealth service. Respond to patient phone or medical portal messages.

Assist in highly complex robotic urologic surgeries with responsibilities including positioning the patient on the operating table, making surgical incisions, closing surgical incisions, placing surgical drains, placing surgical ports, setting up the robot arms and instruments, assisting the surgeon in performing the surgery using specialized laparoscopic instruments at the bedside, exchanging robotic instrumentation in a timely fashion as requested by the operating surgeon, troubleshooting any bedside robotic instrument adjustments, or surgical issue in real time.

Establish and/or participate in clinical studies or new clinical protocols with an attending physician for the urology department. 

Oversees at least 9 APPs that include physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Acts as liaison between APP group and department/division, administration, and hospital leadership. Serves as point person and resource for clinic and administrative staff. Assist in patient triaging and serve as the point provider for the clinic in cases of urgent/emergent patient issues. Participates in APP and nursing staff evaluations. Coordinates administrative activities related to the operational needs of the APP group, coordinates APP schedules and assignments, organizes APP meetings to optimize departmental communication.

Participates in policy development, quality improvement, and protocol development to facilitate evidence-based practice and APP growth.   Participates in Departmental/Division meetings, quality improvement meetings, or administrative meetings as requested by department/divisional or administrative leadership. Co-directs the clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives of the service line Medical Director and unit nursing management team. Serves as a liaison for other medical departments (i.e. interventional radiology, medical oncology, primary care), providing medical advice and assistance with coordinating patient care. Participates as a representative in the hospital wide APP committee.

Leads recruitment, orientation, and training of new APPs in conjunction with medical and administrative leadership. Facilitates orientation of new hires, by organizing, coordinating, overseeing and participating in the new hire on boarding process.   Develops and maintains a training process which allows for graduated responsibility of APPs until the new provider is able to function independently and safely.

Ensures clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review of all APPs with physicians.  Facilitates continued APP education and growth through quarterly meetings for APPs which will include clinical updates, clinical changes and education based on evidence-based practice development. Provides training to APPs and medical residents for bedside first assist role in urologic robotic surgeries.

Facilitates growth and developmental opportunities for students and clinical staff.  Will hold the role of preceptor of physician assistant students and clinical staff who rotate through the department and will serve as a mentor for Pre-PA students, PA students and practicing advanced practice providers.  She will provide didactic Urology lectures to the University of Florida Physician Assistant school when requested.


 
Expected Salary:

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Licensed as a Physician Assistant in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes. At least 5 years of clinical experience in Urology.


Must obtain and maintain NCCPA and full licensure in the State of Florida.


Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer incumbent to have Urology experience.
