Job Summary

The Cardiology Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position has clinical, procedural, administrative, and educational responsibilities in the care of adult patients requiring assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment in the critical care setting.  Under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiology Critical Care and the Heart & Vascular Director of Advanced Practice Providers, the Cardiology Intensive Care APP (CICU APP) will have a critical role in the inpatient setting, with both team member and individual duties.  These responsibilities will include examination and assessment, diagnosis, and planning; treatment implementation, coordination, and continuity; performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) years related adult Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular/Cardiology patient care experience as a physician assistant and/or minimum with a minimum of 1 years of adult ICU experience as a physician assistant in a Cardiothoracic ICU/Coronary Care Unit/Cardiovascular ICU setting
  • For new graduate PA, clinical rotations including critical care and cardiology in an academic setting
  • Possesses the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
  • Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with point of care ultrasound
  • Prior experience with line insertion
  • Prior experience with MCS patient population
  • Prior experience in an academic setting

License/Certification

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.

  • Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA)
  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
  • Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
    • Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)
  • Must have completed an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • ACLS
