Job Summary

We are seeking a Physician Assistant for theDuke Carolina Orthopedic Clinic located inDurham, NC to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician for patients requiring Total Joint orthopedic carein outpatient and inpatient (OR) settings. 

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.  OR days generally start at 7:00 AM.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients needing total joint and general orthopedic care.

• Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri-operative workflow including scheduling, pre-ops, and post-op follow-up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
• Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
• Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
• Refer patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.

Experience

• Prefer PA General Orthopedics – Total Joint experience   

Job Eligibility Requirements

 Education           

• Physician Assistants:  Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

License                

• Physician Assistants:  Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
