Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The College of Arts and Humanities is seeking a Photographer/Videographer to join their marketing and communications team. The Photographer/Videographer manages all photography and videography for the performing arts at the University of Maryland, both in studio and on location, supporting the goals and priorities established to extend messaging and storytelling for all of the performing arts partners. Reporting to the associate director of communications, this position supports photography/videography for The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the School of Music; the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies; and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. This position works collaboratively across the marketing and communications team and all partners in identifying photo/video needs, art directing, conducting photo and video shoots, producing multimedia stories and maintaining a searchable archive of images and video. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and a dedication to producing high-quality, creative final products. The Photographer/Videographer also maintains and recruits a team of freelance photographers annually to allow for higher volume needs. The outputs of this position are utilized across a variety of communications platforms including web, print, digital publications, social media and onsite events.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2-4 years of demonstrated experience in digital photography and video, including professional-level techniques and standards, conceptualization, production, and project management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must have superb photography skills. Knowledge of best practices for producing and editing video, as well as troubleshooting video, audio, lighting equipment, video compression output and encoding.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple, concurrent projects and clients with varying needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing, editorial, creative, and production processes that utilize photo and video content.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Experience managing photo/video equipment and archives.
Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Digital Media Production, Video Production, or Film Production preferred.
  • Background in the arts or experience with arts institutions.
  • Experience in a public higher education institution.
  • Expertise in using Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro.
  • Experience using a digital asset management tool.
  • Experience producing compelling photo/video content for social media channels.
  • Ability to capture poignant artistic moments; editing for emotion, expertise, brevity, and/or clarity.
  • Knowledge of Asana or other project management software.
  • Some experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Salary: $64k to $80k commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • This is an in-person position. Telework may be available up to two (2) days per week, subject to approval.

Physical Demands
  • This position will require the carrying of camera equipment of various weights, along with the position of various video shots and photography angles.
