The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Pharmacy Technician to join the team at the hospital. The mission of Cornell University Hospital for Animals is to provide leadership in patient care, education, clinical investigation, and scientific innovation.  The Pharmacy  plays an essential role in the hospital to achieve this mission.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Prepare prescriptions for oral medications, chemotherapies, and sterile medications for dispensing by a pharmacist to both inpatients and outpatients. 

  • Answer phones and address customer requests, questions and concerns, including Cornell and non-Cornell veterinarians, students, staff and clients.   

  • Process in person medication pick up including accurate payment processing through practice management information system. 

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records regarding medications and controlled substances, in the pharmacy and the automated dispensing machines, in accordance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.  

  • Provide inventory management including ordering and receiving medications and supplies to maintain adequate stock in the pharmacy.  

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships including communicating with staff, students, technicians, veterinarians, and clients in a professional manner at all times.

  • This is a full-time position, providing 39 hours of coverage between the hours of 7:30am to 6:00 pm, alternating shifts, with a rotating Saturday shift.  Rotating holiday coverage is also required. CUHA Pharmacy is open Monday-Friday 7:30am to 6pm and Saturday 7:30am-12:30pm

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma and up to 2 years of experience in a medical related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for 7-8 hours a day.  

  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding environment handling multiple tasks with competing deadlines, while paying close attention to details.  

  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment, while demonstrating a high level of initiative.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification is preferred and will be required within 6 months of start date upon which the classification will be move to a Technician III

  • Associates Degree or equivalent with field of study in science or pharmacology.

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
