Job Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by UCSF Health as well as its providers and payers. The department spends approximately $45 million per month or $540 million annually on pharmaceutical expense. This position is responsible for timely processing of Pharmacy transactions (wholesaler and direct vendor invoices and credit memos) and ensures UCSF Health receives the full amount of early payment discounts. This position will also be responsible for reconciling Pharmacy vendors monthly statements, generating purchase orders as needed, conducting Pharmacy month end closing activities, initiating interdepartmental billing, conducting check deposits, and performing document retention to meet Pharmacy regulatory and licensure requirements.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: Pharmacy contract pricing validation, Pharmacy financial data analyses and reporting, maintaining Pharmacy business operations standard operating procedure, building rapport with internal and external customers, provides guidance to Pharmacy team members on financial processes, prepare process and policy recommendations to Pharmacy leaders, helps train new staff, and other duties as assigned.
This is a hybrid position (subject to change).  Employee is expected to work on site as required.


Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services’ mission is to provide safe, accessible and patient-centered medication therapy across the continuum of care.  We provide a full range of services for patients cared for by UCSF Health as well as its providers and payers. We have locations at Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion campuses and offsite clinics such as Berkeley and San Mateo.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in finance, administration and/or accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
  • Ability to maintain relationships across departments and with vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff.
  • Maintain substantial knowledgeand understanding of pharmaceutical brand and generic pharmaceuticals.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician
  • California pharmacy technician license
  • Certified pharmacy technician certification – CPhT designation
