As a People and Culture Specialist, the primary focus of the role is to ensure the efficient administration and coordination of various HR processes, initiatives, and programs. The role encompasses multiple responsibilities, including performance management, offboarding, leave of absence administration, training and development, employee relations, and active participation in employee programs such as ELEVATE Mentorship, C.O.D.E., and CREW. The role is pivotal in HR coordination and administration, serving as employees' first point of contact and providing essential support and information related to leave of absence, offboarding, performance management, and learning and development. The People and Culture Specialist is critical in fostering a positive and efficient HR environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Educates and assists management and employees within a particular division or department in the administration of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Interprets policies and works with appropriate staff to effectively resolve human resources issues.
  • Provides guidance to managers and supervisors regarding employee leave policies.
  • May investigate and gather information regarding employee relations, Workers' Compensation and FMLA situations.
  • Initiates employment requisitions and follows up on job postings and applicant referrals.
  • Processes new hire and applicant tracking paperwork.
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of employment documents.
  • Reviews and obtains approval of time and attendance documents, processes reimbursements and special checks and maintains required documentation.
  • Maintains databases, records and files and prepares reports.
  • May assist with budget preparation and monitor expenditures for specific areas.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Coordinating and administering HR training initiatives, programs, and special events, requiring a keen eye for detail in logistics and coordination.
  • Responsibilities involve scheduling HR programs and events calendars, developing, reviewing, and proofing event materials, and ensuring effective communication with internal and external colleagues.
  • Assisting with planning activities, collaborating with the Senior Manager to provide input on initiatives and programs. This includes coordinating the planning and execution of performance management cycles and annual learning and development schedules.
  • Responsible for generating reports and conducting data analysis, focusing on offboarding and performance management events and ad-hoc projects.
  • Administers all leave of absence cases. This involves working with external contacts to plan, process, and manage claims and updating managers and supervisors throughout the programs.
  • The attention to detail is crucial in handling these cases effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of college coursework, and three years of office administration experience which includes two years of human resources experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of various personal computer software packages.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of HR laws and regulations, highlighting the importance of compliance in their role.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Google suite. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, BambooHR, Google Workspace, Cvent, Trello,and Kronos.
  • A customer service-oriented mindset, empathy, and a commitment to addressing employee needs contribute to a positive HR experience for all staff members.
  • The ability to navigate evolving situations and proactively adjust to new challenges is a valuable attribute.
  • Strong organizational skills are crucial, given the role's emphasis on coordination and administration.
  • The specialist will manage multiple programs, events, and HRIS data, requiring prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines efficiently.
  • Accuracy is paramount in HR administration, and the specialist must pay close attention to detail in event planning, data entry, and record-keeping.
  • The ability to spot errors and ensure precision in all aspects of the role is essential for success.
  • HR issues can be complex, and the specialist should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. This includes analyzing situations, identifying solutions, and making informed decisions, particularly in areas such as leave of absence claims administration.
  • Given the sensitive nature of HR functions, the specialist should exhibit high integrity and ethical conduct. Upholding confidentiality and handling HR matters with discretion are essential components of the role
  • A candidate with a genuine interest in human resources, demonstrated by aspirations to grow within the HR field, pursue HR certifications, or stay abreast of industry trends, would bring added value to the role. This passion for HR can drive continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.
