The Peer Mentor Program Coordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of a targeted and scalable peer mentoring program customized for Morgan State University. The position facilitates the design and delivery of best practices within the undergraduate ecosystem for peer-to-peer engagement, supervision, training, and direct support for student participating in the program. The peer mentoring initiative will contribute to the university's mission by ensuring that all students understand and fulfill the institutional core values of Leadership, Innovation, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence, and Respect (LIIDER), which all serve to a). guide the promotion of student learning and success; b). promote scholarship and research at the highest levels of undergraduate study; and c). enhance community engagement within and beyond the Morgan State and Baltimore community.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with onboarding, ongoing support, supervision and evaluation of peer mentors.
  • Recruit peer mentors who have a commitment to positive student development and success.
  • Recruitment and retention of peer mentors, mentees and trainers.
  • Schedule weekly meetings, excursions, service projects and special events as indicated by best practices and student interests.
  • Periodically assess program effectiveness through focus groups, surveys and evaluations.
  • Elevate the interests and experiences of the program participants and applies that to the peer mentoring program design.
  • Facilitate leadership sessions and participates in monthly service learning projects.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various campus offices, service organizations, and alumni networks to arrange meaningful community service projects and student engagements.
  • Develop and facilitate peer mentoring trainings with an eye toward creation of a university universal certification or credentialing in one or more skills areas.
  • Ensure a seamless, data-driven registration and selection process for mentors and mentees.
  • Submit monthly reports to supervisor to keep them abreast of program progress/milestones.
  • Integrate reflective learning activities in every session and after every service project.
  • Monitor and secure meaningful, productive interaction and engagement with mentors and mentees via in-person and online settings.
  • Ensure that peer mentors are actively engaged with mentees and that they adhere to pre-approved set schedule and curricula.
  • Adhere to the program's mission, goals and guiding principles in the facilitation, design and planning of projects.
  • Seek direction and support as necessary from supervisors and colleagues.
  • Maintain positive relationships and interactions with parents to discuss their child's academic performance and emotional well-being.
  • The Peer Mentor Program Coordinator will perform professional level administrative duties in coordinating the daily operations of program development and management. The position will recruit, hire and train peer mentors; create courses and programs for leadership and professional development; and offer contract training courses. Additionally, they will identify new best practices and skill-based interests specific to peer-to-peer mentoring and training, with opportunities for new courses and programs.
