Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks an oncologist with special interest in neuro-oncology. Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest. Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered. The individual selected will join the Division of Hematology/Oncology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a pediatrician specializing in oncology. 


The Neuro-oncology team practices multidisciplinary management of patients with brain and spine tumors, retinoblastoma, and NF1 and NF2-related schwannomatosis. The scope of practice includes (but is not limited to) the enrollment of patients in multi-institutional clinical research protocols through our collaborations with the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN), National Experimental Therapeutics Consortium (NEXT), and other industry-sponsored trials. The division is involved in cutting-edge research that is funded by the NIH and nonfederal agencies.

The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians. For its 2023-24 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked UI Stead Family Children's Hospital in six pediatric specialties: neonatology, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology.

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology or equivalent


Completed fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology with an additional fellowship in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology or experience working as a pediatric Neuro-Oncology physician


License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Desirable Qualifications:

Interest and/or expertise in pediatric neuro-oncology


Experience in patient-oriented research


Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents


Evidence of scholarly activity


Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills


Candidates with related clinical and leadership experience will be considered for an endowed professorship


Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment
