Job Summary

As a clinical nurse leader in pediatrics for the acute care and transitional care patient population, this person will work in collaboration with the Unit Director to apply evidenced-based nursing practice to enhance patient care. In addition to working collaboratively with the unit-based leaders on C5, this person will work closely with other advanced practice nurses at Benioff Children’s Hospitals and across UCSF Health. This person will utilize specialized knowledge and skills to develop specialized patient-treatment plans, work directly with patients and nursing staff who have complex care requirements, and analyze patient data to improve the quality of patient care.

Department Description

C5 is comprised of a 28-bed pediatric medical surgical unit and a 16-bed transitional care unit (step-down unit) that provides comprehensive inpatient care to children and families experiencing a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions or recent surgery. Patients range in age from neonates to adolescents. The unit supports 17 pediatric subspecialties, including immunology, GI, renal, neurology and neurosurgery, general major abdominal surgery and liver and kidney transplant.


Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of nursing experience in a pediatric acute care or critical care
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Current CNS license in the State of California, obtained within one year of hire
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Current American Heart Association PALS certification
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist or APRN specialty certification obtained within one year of hire
  • In-depth knowledge of patient population in the pediatric acute care and pediatric transitional care (step-down) or pediatric critical care, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family educational consulting and resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required. Advanced skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years in an advanced practice nurse position, or equivalent

License/Certification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Current CNS license in the State of California, obtained within one year of hire
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Current American Heart Association PALS certification
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist or APRN specialty certification obtained within one year of hire
