This position provides for work-life balance with typically a 40-hour work week that includes flexible work arrangements.  This position is open to a hybrid work arrangement for workers in the Austin area.

Payroll Services at The University of Texas at Austin is responsible for producing and distributing payroll for approximately 29,000 employees. Purpose

Serve as part of the Payment Team in Payroll Services, primarily responsible for overseeing employee gross pay in the Workday system. Understand payroll impacts of employee jobs, compensation plans, allowances, one-time payments, pay from time tracking, and retroactive transactions.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing and completing the semi-monthly, monthly, and off cycle payrolls via the Workday system. Work with other Payroll Team members to process On Demand payments, Pay Input, and Manual Payments as needed in order to generate accurate pay to employees. Maintain central repository of supporting documentation to include audit, exception reports, and work papers.
  • Assist in reviewing semi-monthly retro reports and in creating unsupported time entry EIBs to ensure payments are accurate and comply with appropriate policies and laws.          
  • Communicate with departments and employees regarding the leave payout process        
  • Monitor leave payout reports and process payments on off-cycle payrolls as appropriate.       
  • Serve as a primary contact for monthly gross pay inquiries, assisting both departments and employees. Review employee records and reports in order to research and respond appropriately. Provide excellent customer service in both written and verbal communication in a high volume and fast-paced environment via email, phone calls, or in person. Monitor email and On Demand requests for pay inquiries and issues and respond accordingly. Problem solve and resolve employee paycheck discrepancies.             
  • Review monthly retro reports to identify unsupported events and create EIBs to process any payments. Identify issues, and work with other Payroll Team members to resolve. Collaborate with departmental contacts, Human Resources, Accounting and Financial Management, the Workday Program, and other business process owners as needed.      
  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications 

High School diploma and at least one year of monetary experience. Additional requirements include: Ability to work as a team member; Excellent customer service experience, including written and verbal skills; Demonstrated accuracy, organizational skills, and attention to detail; Ability to work independently, effectively, and exercise good judgement; Drive for process improvement; Professional demeanor and ability to maintain punctual, dependable hours. Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; Knowledge of Payroll, HR Compensation, and Accounting concepts.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience allowed.


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree; More than two years of payroll experience; Experience with Workday HCM, Time, Absence, Compensation, and/or Workday Payroll; Highly motivated self-starter; Familiarity with UT-Austin policies, practices and administrative functions; Familiarity with the university’s Mainframe System (DEFINE) and/or other university systems. Proven analytical skills; Proficient use of Microsoft Excel. Experience managing complex processes and building in controls to promote efficiency and consistency. Experience writing and developing system documentation and guidelines.


Salary Range

$49,000
