OU Veteran Student Services (VSS) works to bring in the next generation of Sooners. Our team operates from Norman as well as across the state, nation and world. We provide support to incoming domestic and international freshman and transfer students as they navigate the college application and decision process. Additionally, we partner with parents, counselors, and communities in providing resources to students interested in higher education. Our goal is to build a vibrant community with limitless potential by recruiting the most academically qualified students with a variety of educational, service, involvement and community experiences.

  General Position Information:

Veteran Student Services is a key office at OU leading the development of centralized services and support for prospective and current military-connected students: veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard, military dependents, survivors and families.  Veteran Student Services streamlines the GI Bill® certification process for Main Campus; tracks military-connected students through stages of recruitment, admission, retention, graduation and vocation; and oversees administration in areas such as: VA benefit compliance audits, accreditation and approval regulations,  scholarships & funding in the Veteran Support Alliance Foundation, corporate and private partnership development, and the Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success grant from Dept of Education.

 The PAVE Veteran Student Team Leader is set up to be at least a 1-year position, a 15-20 hours per week appointment, with a review at the end of the first year.  The PAVE Team Leader reports to Director of Veteran Student Services, is responsible to oversee the OU PAVE Program as the Team Leader and assists with on-going and short-term projects that advance the leadership and centralization efforts.

Primary Representative Duties:

The primary duty of the PAVE Team Leader is to serve as the Team Leader for the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) program. This peer support program connects incoming student veterans with current student veterans to build camaraderie through a shared experience in the military and create a sense of community and connectedness that contributes to academic and personal success.

Duties of the Team Leader Include:

  • Recruiting, supervising, training, and offering guidance to Peer Advisors.
  • Creating and reviewing contact logs.
  • Completing bi-weekly reports for research tracking. 
    • Lead building the OU Resource Network - identify resources to assist navigating college life.  
    • Collaborate with OU faculty/staff & off-campus entities.
    • Conduct and organize resource network training workshops for PAVE Team, OU PAVE students, and OU military service-connected students as applicable.
    • Maintain and match PAVE resources platform, Veteran Support Alliance resource webpage, and Canvas Resources module.
  • Event planning coordinator
    • Ex: PAVE Sooner Veteran Success Orientation.
  • Participate in PAVE meetings, required trainings, and National PAVE collaboration efforts.
  • Participate in military-connected related events on campus.
  • Collaborating with OU faculty/staff (such as college advisors, specific offices or departments, higher administration, and military-connected students) to network and better streamline services for the military-connected population at OU.

Compensation:

  • Position is a 12-month, 20 hours per week appointment, $11/hr.

Additional Requirements:

  • Served or currently serving in Armed Forces as veteran, active duty, reserve or National Guard member
  • Utilized VA educational benefit for prior educational efforts

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in a combination of 2 terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Summer and/or Fall 2024 class schedule
  • Junior standing or higher with at least 1 year attending OU Norman Campus
