Summary

The Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center (FDTC), we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Services Assistant to join our innovative team. This role is crucial in providing seamless and efficient support to our patients, their families, referring physicians, and healthcare staff. Responsibilities*

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service Excellence: Serve as the first point of contact for patients. You will manage business processes critical to patient interactions such as appointment scheduling, check-in, check-out, and telephone triage.
  • Clerical Support and Coordination: Utilize your organizational skills to offer clerical assistance in a dynamic patient care environment. This includes arranging and coordinating the necessary support and ancillary services essential for comprehensive patient care.
  • Scheduling and Administrative Support: Handle the scheduling of various complex procedures and interventions within FDTC. You will coordinate closely with multiple disciplines to ensure smooth operation and patient flow. Administrative duties also include answering multi-line phones, preparing and assisting with billing information, and managing daily patient charts.
  • Record Management: Take charge of obtaining outside records, preparing daily patient charts, filing, and ensuring accurate scanning of records into our system.

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma or equivalent education are necessary.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Must present a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty, management, and staff.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must be an organized, self-motivated, multi-tasker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Possess excellent communication, organizational and effective time management skills. 
  • Outstanding customer service skills, team player and motivated self-starter.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality is a must.

Desired Qualifications*
  • At least two years of experience in a health care setting.
  • Strong computer skills. Knowledge of Epic and/or Electronic Health Record a plus.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Work Schedule

Appointment: 40 hours/week

Shift/Hours/Days: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm   Days: Monday to Friday (Work schedule to be determined by supervisor)

Location:  Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center, 9th Floor VH


Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
