Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician assigned to the Phlebotomy/EKG team will:

  • Perform venipuncture using proper technical skills and equipment; label specimens accurately and arrange for timely delivery to the laboratory
  • Perform EKGs, including appropriate documentation
  • Maintain all records and equipment pertinent to the activities of the Phlebotomy/EKG team
  • Maintain and enhance the Phlebotomy/EKG Team Program through team building with nursing and other disciplines
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality and services of the Phlebotomy/EKG team
  • Provide patient care within the scope of the Patient Care Technician job description

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

The Parnassus Perianesthesia Department at Parnassus operates a fast-paced, high-volume care unit with 37 combined Preop and PACU beds and a dedicated procedural bay for patients undergoing cardioversion, TEE, and electroconductive therapy. The department serves up to 80 patients daily undergoing surgical specialties, such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Cardiac, and more. Additionally, it manages patients from patient procedural areas like cardiac catheterization, endoscopy suites, and MRI.


Required Qualifications

  • Current Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy technician, EKG technician, or comparable acute care hospital experience
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description
  • Willingness to be taught/learn new skills
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition and subtraction)
  • Ability to organize and effectively set priorities
  • Ability to carry out duties of first responder in emergency situations
  • Successful completion of Medical Center Phlebotomy/EKG Training Program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to the responsibilities of the job
