Position Summary
Perform all job responsibilities of a scheduler and medical office receptionist in the Siteman Cancer Center. Ensure accuracy of data entered into the scheduling system including scheduling transactions, and demographic and insurance/referral information. Serves as a liaison between stakeholders (patients, staff, family, healthcare professionals, and general public) and advocates for the needs of the patients and treatment center. Expert level training required.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Greets patients/family/visitors to the Siteman Cancer Center. Answers questions and provides directions as needed.
  • Verifies patientâ™s identification, checks patients in EMR system, validates demographic and insurance information and verifies completion of pre-treatment testing/procedures/appointments. Applies identification band/ labels as indicated. Obtains signed consents, financial responsibility forms, patient history and questionnaires, and assists patient in completing forms as required.
  • Collects co-payments and accurately balances cash drawer at end of shift.
  • Schedules, reschedules, cancels and confirms appointments with office visits, treatments, diagnostics and procedures in accordance with clinical team guidelines, treatment center guidelines, and referral/authorization/ registration processes.
  • Monitors EPIC work queues, appointment desk, DAR, in-basket and/or schedulerâ™s phone line. Completes scheduling requests, forwards messages as appropriate and takes and all steps to facilitate the patientâ™s plan of care and patient satisfaction.
  • Provides patients with schedule itinerary, after visit summary and education instructions for testing/procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification with three years of experience in billing systems and third-party claims and/or experience in a medical office setting or related customer service/office experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification. (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.). BLS certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.

Salary Range
$17.00 - $24.66 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
