GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Pathways and Bridging Programs (PBP) Advisor will work within the office of Academic Affairs, in the area of both Undergraduate and Graduate policy and practice to help make a success of this significant initiative at Illinois Tech. They will be a programmatic advisor to students, faculty and staff to help with the implementation and success of PBPs. They will liaise with academic departments to assist in the process of adaptation to non-traditional pathways into degree programs and with a concentration as a graduate specialist to provide general support to Academic Affairs. As an Academic Affairs Advisor, the PBP Advisor will assist with student needs serviced by the department of Academic Affairs, but will specialize in PBP assistance.
COMMUNICATIONS
This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, and interaction with staff, students, faculty and other members of the university community.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Will provide customer services to students, staff and faculty on a daily basis.

Qualifications


Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of higher education experience in a four year university is required. Experience in academic advising strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office. Experience with Ellucian Banner and Degree Works is strongly preferred.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
No direct role in supervision or budget matters, but will direct some duties of student workers.
Physical Environment and Requirements
Traditional office setting with work from home flexibility.

Key Responsibilities


Key Responsibility
Provides academic degree services for all students admitted into a PBP. Will assist academic departments, program directors and advisors (both faculty and staff assigned to advising) make informed choices concerning the implementation of PBP’s. Will liaise and support admissions marketing of the PBP program. Will be or will become very familiar with all majors and their requirements, including specializations, department substitutions, core curriculum (when applicable) and requirements. Providing accurate and timely audits will be beneficial to students and faculty, and will ensure students are on track for their anticipated graduation date. Assist with other office daily work, including but not limited to graduation auditing, student and faculty petitions and academic policy exceptions.

Key Responsibility
Assist with university advising and retention efforts. Review academic and registration issues preventing registration or degree completion and offer solutions to students and faculty advisors concentrating on, but not exclusively for, students in the PBP. Serve on Academic Standing Committee and in particular, matriculation review, to resolve issues preventing degree completion and decision making in PBP students entering full degree seeking status. Serve on both the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Committees as a non-voting member to provide interpretation of academic policies and regulations. Assist with editing of the bulletin so that academic policies are explained accurately.

Key Responsibility
Assists students, faculty, staff and others with questions or concerns via phone, email, and in person, and answers student petitions on Degree Works and via email. Student petitions include but are not limited to shared course approvals, course repeat requests, transfer credit, substitutions, and more.

Assists with academic review of students who applied for graduation, including the double checking of the final degree audit.
