Th University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Temporary College of Education Consultant on the Dahlonega campus. As the College of Education Reading Consultant specializing in structured literacy and the Science of Reading (SOR), you will be responsible for redesigning our existing reading endorsement courses to ensure alignment with GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03 Foundations of Reading, Literacy, and Language. This role requires expertise in literacy instruction, curriculum design, and a deep understanding of the foundations of reading.

  • Curriculum Analysis: Conduct a comprehensive review of our current Reading Endorsement courses to identify areas of misalignment with GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03. This will also entail changing the four-course endorsement program to a three-course program.
  • Alignment Planning: Develop a detailed plan to realign the courses with the GaPSC Rule 505-3.-.03 Foundations of Reading, Literacy, and Language standards and ensure that all components of GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03 are adequately represented.
  • Content Redesign: Redesign course content, activities, and assessments to reflect best practices in literacy instruction as outlined by GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03.
  • Resource Development: Curate or develop instructional materials, resources, and tools to support the implementation of the redesigned courses, ensuring accessibility and relevance to educators.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish benchmarks and criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of the redesigned courses and ensure ongoing alignment with GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03 Foundations of Reading, Literacy, and Language standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including faculty members, administrators, and education policymakers to communicate the rationale behind the redesign and garner support for implementation efforts.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiarity with the GaPSC Rule 505-3-.03 Foundations of Reading, Literacy, and Language standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Expertise in literacy instruction, with a strong understanding of the Science of Reading principles and their application in instructional design.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Commit to equity and inclusion in education, with an understanding of how literacy instruction can support diverse learners.
  • Master's degree or higher in Education, Literacy Education, or Curriculum and Instruction required.
  • Experience in curriculum development and course redesign required; preferably in the context of literacy education or teacher preparation programs.
