Part-Time Student PASS Program Assistant Instructor

ACADEMIC SUPPORT-ASDV (BL-ACSP-IUBLA)

The PASS (Peer Assisted Study Session) Program Assistant Instructors report directly to the Groups Scholars Program's Math Tutoring Coordinator. The PASS Program Assistant Instructor will provide supplemental instruction and learning tools to students enrolled in entry level Math J010, Math M106, Chemistry C103, or Business K160 during the Groups Scholars Program Summer Experience Program.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Attend the PASS Program training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Observe daily Math J010, Math M106, Chemistry C103, or Business K160 class as assigned.
  • Create lesson plans and provide supplemental materials to assist Groups participants' need for success.
  • Schedule and lead Peer Assisted Study Sessions, track attendance and participation.
  • Assess and monitor academic progress of participants within study sessions.
  • Participate in analysis and data collection regarding the success of the program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity with the content of the Groups Scholars Program's course material.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University with 1 year completed.
  • A grade of A or B in Math J111, J112, and/or Chemistry C103, and/or Business K160, and/or K201.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 6 months of experience in a college level setting, assisting fellow students progressing in math and/or chemistry.

SKILLS

Required

  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and effectively to college students.
  • Ability to utilize study strategies to teach students effectively. 
  • Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Ability to work with students in a small group settings.
  • Ability to work with word processing, spreadsheets and electronic communication software.
  • Possess strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as a professional demeanor.
  • Commitment to work scheduled hours knowing that regular attendance is a condition of employment.

The employee is expected to communicate well and explain mathematical or chemistry concepts to enable students to understand and successfully complete entry level math or science.

This position will start June 10, 2024 and ends July 26, 2024. 

Bloomington, Indiana.

$14.00 per hour.

15-20 hours per week. 

Schedules coincide with the Summer Experience Program class schedules and PASS Sessions. 

Hours of work are flexible for lesson planning but should not exceed 29 hours per week across all positions of employment held with Indiana University.
