Job Description
The lab of Dr. Shannon Farris, Ph.D. is seeking a responsible and well-organized Part Time Research Assistant who can support research activities in the laboratory. The projects in Dr. Farris’s lab focus on the study of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying learning. This work uses mouse genetics and advanced imaging techniques to investigate the role of mitochondria in supporting circuit-specific functions underlying social memory.
The primary responsibility of this position is to help in data collection and data analysis for in vivo research projects. The successful candidate should be detail oriented, work well in a team, be able to keep careful records, and develop and execute image-based quantification pipelines. The candidate should also be flexible and enjoy a fast-paced research environment.
Required Qualifications
• Experience in a professional research laboratory setting
• Demonstrated organizational skills or experience with data management.
• Desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple duties.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
• Working towards a degree or courses in biology, neuroscience, or related field, and/or the equivalent level of training and experience
• Experience with basic laboratory protocols including data collection and data management.
