JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Center for the Business of Sustainability within the Smeal College of Business is seeking to hire a student intern for the 2024 to 2025 Academic Year (with the intent to extend into subsequent academic years) to support the Impact Careers Team research needs. The position is a hybrid work position 10 hours/week at a starting rate of $13/hour. Preferably a Junior, senior, OR graduate student in business.

The Impact Careers Team is a new initiative within the Smeal College of Business supported by career services at the undergraduate, graduate, and alumni level. As this cross-functional partnership takes off, this position is created to develop resources and connections for students and alumni seeking careers with positive social and environmental impact.

The project is divided into three phases. Phase 1: Research sustainability-related Companies to develop a spreadsheet of employers dedicated to ESG (environmental, social, governance) impact with a significant alumni presence. Phase 2: Research Employers of Sustainability to create an occupational mapping to provide progressive career alternatives for students and alumni. Phase 3: Develop a Smeal alumni sustainability guide: a directory of Smeal alumni in sustainability-related careers across multiple occupations and sectors.

A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A strong sense of commitment to the Center’s mission and vision, including dedication to equity inclusivity, and initiative in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated interest in impact career development.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Evidence of strong research skills (qualitative or quantitative)
  • Comfort with cold outreach (strong written and oral communication)
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills is a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing data sources such as LinkedIn, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Indeed, and O*NET, research career pathways in sustainability and ESG impact
  • Researching Smeal alumni working in sustainability and ESG Impact
  • Network and interview professionals to form connections in support of Smeal’s Impact Career Team initiatives
  • Develop a Smeal alumni sustainability guide in accordance with Smeal's Brand Essence
  • Weekly meetings with Supervisor
  • Biweekly meetings with the intern cohort for professional development topics and discussions of progress
