Part-Time Lecturer, Committee on Education

The Division of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago invites applications for multiple appointments as Part-Time Lecturer in the Committee on Education (https://voices.uchicago.edu/coed/ ). Successful candidates will teach up to 3 quarter-long classes in winter or spring quarter of the 2023-24 academic year. These will be part-time, term-limited teaching positions. The part-time lectureship is limited to a term of no more than two quarters and is non-renewable and non-benefits eligible. Courses will be part of the undergraduate and/or graduate instructional programs in Education and Society and cover topics including individual development and learning; the relationship between schooling and society; and educational policy and evaluation. Part-time lecturers will teach courses oriented toward MA and/or undergraduate students, according to program need.

The Committee on Education (COE) is an interdisciplinary group of faculty in the Social Sciences Division, the Harris School of Public Policy, and the Crown School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice whose research addresses questions of: individual learning and development; schools as social institutions; and the effectiveness of interventions to improve educational outcomes, especially for disadvantaged children from marginalized communities. COE runs a weekly Education Workshop Lecture Series and instructional programs for undergraduate, MA and PhD students. These include an undergraduate Minor and MA Certificate in Education and Society and a federally funded pre-doctoral training program in Education Sciences.

Applicants must hold a PhD or EdD in a relevant discipline prior to the start date. Prior teaching experience is required.
