Part-Time Lecturer - Arabic

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites applications for a position as part-time Lecturer to teach in Arabic language and culture. The expected start date of the position is September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The selected candidate will typically teach three courses per year in the Arabic language program and in areas of Arabic culture. The selected candidate will also participate in co-curricular activities related to the Arabic program and may advise a limited number of BA and MA theses per year. The initial term of appointment will be for a minimum of 3 years, with longer appointment terms possible depending on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

• a record of successful teaching in Arabic language and culture in a University context;
• an MA in Arabic or a related field;
• ability to teach culture courses in English to diverse groups of students.

Preferred qualifications include:

• A PhD in Arabic or a related field
