Primary Purpose
Provide instruction in Addictions Studies and Human Services as a member of an instructional team of full and part time instructors. Addictions Studies and Human Services faculty should have some experience in the field. In addition to teaching within the Addictions Studies and Human Services curriculum, faculty will direct student discussion, select learning experiences appropriate for meeting objectives and evaluate student performance in the classroom.
This is a part-time instructor position non-represented and non-benefited.
Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in area of Addiction Studies and Human Services, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
  • Lecture and guide classroom activities, providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. May also involve watching student videos outside of class time.
  • Cooperate with other College personnel to assist students with career planning, job placement, and follow-up studies.
  • Act as a resource person for students.

Department Specific
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
  • Thorough knowledge in the field of Addictions Studies, Addictions Treatment, counseling and human services.
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer controlled mixed media presentations.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Ability to work with Social Science faculty and other COCC staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Ergonomic Requirements
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
M.A. or M.S. in Counseling Psychology, Addiction Studies, Human Services, Social Work or related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working and/or teaching in addictions and counseling field.
  • Experience related to listed courses.
  • College teaching experience.
