Job Description:

The Department of Public Health is seeking a Part-Time Faculty 1 for the course PH 3200 (Introduction to Biostatistics) for the Fall 2024 semester. This course provides an introduction to statistical methods used in public health and medical research and covers elementary probability theory, basic concepts of statistical inference, sampling theory, regression and correlation methods, analysis of variance, and study design. In addition, the course will examine statistical applications in biomedicine, epidemiology, public health, and the life sciences. The main goal of this course is for students to use statistics to appropriately evaluate results of and draw conclusions about studies in public health and other applied medical fields. As a result of taking this class, students should be able to design and implement a small study to produce data and answer properly posed questions. Students should be able to construct and interpret graphical and numerical summaries of data. Students who successfully complete this class should be able to communicate the conclusions of statistical analyses clearly and effectively.

The Part-Time Faculty will be responsible for conducting all instructional duties of the course, including on-campus teaching, implementation and delivery of assignments, grading and outcomes assessment, and maintaining communications with students using the Canvas Learning Management System. 

The position is for Fall 2024 but future teaching assignments for this course may be available consistent with the PTF collective bargaining agreement and the Department’s instructional needs.

Desired Qualifications:

Candidates should have a master’s degree and/or an earned doctorate in biostatistics, epidemiology, other public health specialization, or any social/behavior science with an emphasis on biostatistics and data analyses. Experience with public health data and research methods and a commitment to undergraduate instruction are highly valued.
