JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington is searching for a part-time Summer Youth Program Director in the Continuing Education Department. The Director would be responsible for the planning and onsite administration of the summer youth programs. Continuation of planning would commence in May 2024 and programs would run in late-June to early-August. Planning responsibilities can mostly be performed remotely with flexible working hours. Onsite administration would take place 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday from late-June to early-August. Camps are not in session the week of 4th of July.


Job Duties
Planning

  • Selection of camp topics aligning with academic majors/minors and college readiness as much as possible.

  • Identification of potential new topics

  • Coordination of curriculum development for new topics working with faculty and students working within budget

  • Scheduling of camp sessions.

  • Hiring of instructors and counselors.

  • Scheduling of camp staff.

  • Coordination of room reservations, registration intake forms, camper lunches, and supply orders.

  • Ensure youth compliance for camps according to Penn State policies.

  • Train camp staff including general orientation as well as classroom management/inclusive classroom practices skills.

  • Communicate with parents during registration process.

  • Meet with and maintain relationships with key campus partners (police department, catering, IT, etc.).

  • Support marketing efforts.


Onsite Administration

  • Day-to-day administration of camps.

  • Ensure youth compliance procedures including staff ratios.

  • Oversee pick-up and drop-off of campers.

  • Coordinate camper lunch orders.

  • Manage communication with parents.

  • Manage camp staff.

  • Manage disciplinary issues that may arise with campers.

  • Manage communication with key campus partners.

  • Oversee camper special circumstances such as medical, behavioral, etc.


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Training and experience in working with children, teens, and young adults.

  • Experience with curriculum development and classroom management.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on tasks.

  • Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
