Part- Time Broadcast News Reporter/Producer

The Part Time KBCS Reporter/Producer will produce a minimum of two 3-5-minute pre-produced news segments per week featuring local/regional news stories on issues related to the environment, education, or social justice.

Pay rate: $21.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work 19.75 hours per week maximum with flexible work schedule Monday-Friday. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045 , following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits .

KBCS Radio is Bellevue Colleges Non-Commercial Educational radio station located on the main campus of Bellevue College in Bellevue, WA. KBCS is a community radio station that features local music and news programming and provides volunteer opportunities for citizens and students to produce and host music programs on KBCS and to work in our highly respected news department as a news producer. 

91.3 KBCS-FM-HD1, and World News Radio KBCS-HD2 are radio broadcast services of Bellevue College and are broadcast across the greater Puget Sound region from the main campus of Bellevue College in Bellevue, WA.

The Part-Time KBCS News Reporter/Producer is responsible for producing a minimum of two 3-5-minutes pre -produced news segments per week featuring local news reports related to the environment, education, or social justice. Successful candidate must have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with station staff, volunteers, and students.

  • Previous experience/education working as a radio broadcast news assignment reporter and proficient with audio editing software including but not limited to Adobe Audition.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cooperatively with station staff, volunteers, and students in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working as an on-air news reporter at either a noncommercial or commercial radio broadcast station.
