HEALTH AND WELLNESS DESIGN (BL-HEWD-IUBLA)

A new research program being launched in the Department of Health and Wellness Design has a current opening for a part-time research specialist position (PI: Becca Lassell, PhD). The Green Activity Program (GAP) seeks to support an active lifestyle in people living with mild cognitive impairment and dementia to improve brain health and well-being in nature activities that are culturally relevant. The program involves developing, adapting, and testing behavioral interventions that are designed utilizing participatory co-design approaches with people from historically underrepresented groups in research (Black, African American, Hispanic, Chinese American) to identify and tailor the intervention to their preferences and needs. The research program offers opportunities for team members to develop research skills, advance their professional development, and apply for competitive funding.

Dr. Lassell is an Occupational Therapist and Assistant Professor in the Indiana University School of Public Health - Bloomington, as well as an affiliated scientist with the Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute. Her research focuses on bridging the gap between community-based services and healthcare systems while seeking to understand how factors such as social determinants of health, chronic disease, and function shape a person's ability to access and participate in health promoting activities they find meaningful within their homes, neighborhoods, and communities. Dr. Lassell is a dedicated mentor, committed to the career development of those working in the lab. The Green Activity Prescription program is highly collaborative with other research initiatives in the Department, School, and wider IU Bloomington community; members of the team will be exposed to mentorship and project opportunities in a variety of health-related fields.
