Job Summary/Basic Function:
Brazosport College, a two-time Top 10 finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and Achieving the Dream Leader College, seeks a dynamic Administrative Office Specialist (AOS) to work with The Clarion.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provides support for the Director of The Clarion through the use of general office procedures;
  • Answers and directs phone calls;
  • Provides information and assistance to staff and external customers for The Clarion, including ticket sales, brochure requests, and rental information requests;
  • Keyboards data on computer and/or typewriter including communications, reports and other special projects;
  • Works with facility requests in Astra to schedule events in The Clarion;
  • Compiles weekly facility schedule;
  • Collects information and creates weekly newsletter for distribution mail outs and emails to The Clarion patrons;
  • Maintains website pages for The Clarion;
  • Coordinates staff maintenance of website events, calendar, including news items and social media posts;
  • Coordinates volunteers’ participation on The Clarion events, including concession and ticket will-call booth set-up, recruiting and scheduling volunteer ushers;
  • Assists when needed in the implementation of major Clarion events;
  • Develops and maintains filing system; monitors budget account balances and productions of requisition requests;
  • Maintains promotional item inventories, distribution reports and databases for patron lists used in special event mailings;
  • Supports Student Success initiatives for the department;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;
  • Maximum of 19 work hours per week.
Physical Demands:
Able to traverse campus, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, bending, vision, hearing, and talking.
Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Associate’s degree desirable from a regionally accredited college;
  • One year experience in performing office duties and database management desirable;
  • Demonstrated keyboarding ability;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills;
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills;
  • Knowledge and ability to use word processing and spreadsheets software (Microsoft programs — Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Other qualities, experiences and skills that enhance one’s value to the institution.
