Job Summary:

This position will support outreach and research activities in collaboration with internal and external partners to accomplish UW Shelter Medicine Program goals. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly motivated, have excellent organizational and communication skills, pay strong attention to detail, and require minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to work well both independently and in collaboration with others. Remote or hybrid position will be considered but strong priority will be given to applicants in the Dane County area. Occasional travel may be required.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Shelter Medicine Program is committed to saving animal lives while improving animal health and well-being in shelters and communities. We accomplish this goal through three main objectives:
1. Shelter and Community Engagement- To support animal health and welfare while increasing the life-saving capacity of shelters, rescues, and communities while building core knowledge and developing new perspectives.
2. Education - To provide training for shelters, community members and the next generation of veterinarians
3. Development of Knowledge in the Field - To help to advance the field of Shelter Medicine through shelter studies and involvement in national and regional collaborative projects.


Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development, implementation, administration, coordination, and evaluation for one or more academic programs to ensure effectiveness in meeting departmental and student development goals and initiatives. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 25% Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
  • 30% Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews
  • 15% Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 10% May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
  • 10% Collaborates with internal and external partners in support of outreach and research
    activities.
  • 5% Performs or oversees operation, cleaning, and organization of diagnostic testing equipment
    and area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders.
  • 5% Reviews, analyzes and interprets data and/or documents results from diagnostic testing and
    reports to internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

Prior experience working with animal shelters desired. Preferred qualifications include: experience with data collection, knowledge of animal welfare and animal medical terminology and procedures, strong communication skills, general computer software skills, and strong organizational skills. Strong priority will be given to applicants in the Dane County area.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location..

Minimum $36,500 ANNUAL (12 months)

Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
