The Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for an  Outreach Coordinator.  The incumbent will be supporting HIV positive people who inject drugs (PWID) who are newly diagnosed or re-engaging in care, to have first provider visit, on-site phlebotomy, and immediate antiretoroviral HIV therapy (ART) induction at the SSP fixed site and mobile locations via tele-conference or face-to-face visit with an HIV provider. The Outreach Coordinator will be essential for initiating ART among PWID.  Will accompany PWID throughout the linkage to care and follow up treatment regimen appointments, assuring that initiation of ART occurs and that patients are supported with medication adherence. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct peer navigation and linkage activities for HIV positive PWID
  • Review of data and outcome, daily quality improvement assessment
  • Meetings with Community Engagement Manager and Medical Director
  • Document daily activities and number of clients served
  • Maintain effective lines of communications with clients and prospective clients to ensure adherence to treatment goals and objectives are met
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one years of public outreach experience, syringe service program, and knowledge of HIV outpatient care
  • Experience working in clinical setting is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of clinic operations and flow in tactful and professional manner
  • Recruitment and interviewing skills with substance use disorder patients
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships patients, project staff, university staff, external agencies and study participants
  • Be willing to undergo required training
  • Must adhere to HIPPA and UM HRSO requirements 
  • Current, valid Florida driver’s license
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
