Position Summary
Indiana University School of Dentistry invites applications to a full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure-track/tenured assistant/associate professor position, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Core expectations of this position include (1) In collaboration with other faculty and administration, lead and implement changes in the DDS pre-doctoral curriculum that foster students’ deeper understanding and integration of the biomedical sciences as the foundation of clinical dentistry and oral medicine (2) Direct predoctoral dental courses that emphasize understanding and application of the biomedical sciences and clinical medicine in clinical oral health care, (3) Provide clinical instruction to allied dental and dental students and dental residents, 4) Conduct impactful research and scholarship supported by internal and external funding, and (5) Actively participate in the faculty life of the department, school, and university. The position will be heavily teaching focused, but a level of research and service participation consistent with tenure expectations will be required. If desired, there will be opportunity to participate in a busy referral-based oral medicine intramural faculty practice, as well as support for obtaining medical staff privileges in local hospital/s. The successful candidate will be appointed to one of the academic departments in the School, according to their background and credentials.
IUSD offers a dynamic learning environment for faculty, in which teaching, research, clinical care, and community service are core to our mission, through our School-owned clinics and educational programs in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Our main facility includes a state-of-the-art 45,000– square-foot James J. Fritts DDS Clinical Care Center on the IU-Indianapolis campus, adjacent to local hospitals and part of an urban academic health center. In 2026, we will open our newly renovated Delta Dental Special Care Clinic to enhance our ability to train oral health professionals and provide care for patients with disabilities, including those with complex craniofacial disorders and medical complexity in an interdisciplinary setting. This setting provides additional opportunities for faculty practice for the candidate for this position.
IUSD enrolls approximately 800 students annually in degree and/ or certificate programs in dentistry. We offer DDS, undergraduate certificates and Bachelors degrees in allied dental programs, PhD, and MSD and certificates in advanced dental specialty programs tailored to the current and future needs of the professions and the communities we serve.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates seeking this position must currently:
  • possess a DDS/DMD degree,
  • possess advanced training in Oral Medicine, and
  • be either a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine or be board-eligible.
