Summary of Duties:

The Division of Governmental Studies and Services (DGSS) is a university outreach unit within Extension’s Community and Economic Development Unit (CED). It provides applied social science research, technical assistance and training to government agencies and select non-profit entities in Washington and the Pacific Northwest region.

The occupant of this position will be responsible for the fiscal management of all budgets active within DGSS. Additionally, this position provides support, as needed and specified in operating agreements, for the WSU Extension Community and Economic Development (CED) Program Unit.

Manage Financial Activities

Manage DGSS financial activities; coordinate with various university budget and fiscal offices to ensure adherence to policies and procedures; work with Director to develop, implement and monitor budgets to establish short and long-term plans and goals; oversee and assist in preparation and submission of grant and contract proposals; prepare and provide financial reports.

Manage Operations and Personnel Activities

Assist in the oversight of day-to-day operations; interpret, council, implement and ensure compliance of policies and procedures; process personnel requests; manage salary and wage allocations and distributions across grants; review payroll reports for accuracy; supervise employees in collaboration with Director.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge, Skill and demonstrated Ability in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and equivalents.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, Skill and Ability in using the Workday system.

  • Experience in working with the Office of Research Support and Operations and Sponsored Program Services on grant applications and budget preparation and maintenance.

  • Experience supervising full- and part-time employees.

  • Experience interpreting laws and regulations as they apply to intergovernmental contracts and research projects.

  • Experience and skill in preparing cost projections for grant applications.

Monthly Salary:

$4,942.10 - 7,567.00


In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
