Job Summary

The Operating Room Support Assistant (ORSA) performs the followings duties: cleaning and disinfecting of the perioperative areas, inclusive of the operating rooms, Pre-Op and PACU, Sterile Processing, workrooms, clean/dirty utility rooms, offices, bathrooms and all areas within the footprint of the periop suite. Tasks will follow per AORN, Joint Commission and UCSF Infection Control standards.

The ORSA will be an integral member of the periop team, supporting efficient turn-over of rooms and the work of the team. Must be able to physically endure working machinery to maintain the floors, the ability to reach overhead in terminal cleaning work and the ability to move equipment in order to clean.  Good body mechanics shall be always used. Assists in transporting patients in a wheelchair for discharge. Exemplary customer service to patients, physicians and co-workers at all times. Must work at all UCSF Health locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Six months prior hospital cleaning experience
  • High School Diploma; or equivalent experience
  • Ability to organize and prioritize the daily work load
  • Verbal and written communications skills
  • Basic arithmetic skills
  • Ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors and vendors effectively
  • Ability to physically handle equipment required of the job such as buffers, scrubbers, moving of OR tables, etc. to be able to clean under
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.

  • Working in a periop environment
