Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Opening Supervisor, Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center.

Provide responsible administrative support for the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness operations utilizing skills requiring independence in judgment and organization. Promote and be supportive of the mission of Recreation, Fitness and Wellness (RFW).

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Implement the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center (RFWC) risk management plan in the event of an emergency.
  • Responsible for opening and operating the facility until administrative staff arrives.
  • Maintain accurate department files and records.
  • Oversee operations of the welcome desk area and lobby. Receive and greet visitors and provide general information regarding office and University policies and procedures as needed.
  • Oversee game room; assist in maintaining inventory of video games and systems, sports equipment and supplies. Assist with checking out games, controllers, pool balls, ping pong paddles and other equipment to participants.
  • Oversee the locker rental program. Oversee transactions for locker rentals, guest passes and other fees.
  • Perform daily cash register reconciliation.
  • Supervise and train student staff assigned to day shift. Organize and set work priorities for student staff to meet deadlines and complete projects.
  • Monitor building and locker rooms.
  • Coordinate with Special Events and Scheduling to schedule events and activities in the RFWC. Maintain facilities schedule and post closings/reservations.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down equipment. Ensure all equipment is properly stored and maintained.
  • Assist with maintenance, inventory and checkout of bicycles, camping and sports equipment.
  • Prepare requisitions, check vouchers, purchase orders, travel vouchers and other items.
  • Compile information and prepare final copy for various statistical reports, surveys and questionnaires as requested.
  • Provide assistance as needed for the campus Food Closet.
  • Complete payroll timesheets and recap sheets for student workers and staff, and assist with administrative Absence Reports.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and brochures.
  • Organize and set work priorities for meeting deadlines and completing projects.
  • Maintain equipment and supply inventories.
  • When facility hours are reduced during the summer and other breaks, additional duties may be assigned. These duties may include creating RFW publications, completing reports and surveys, assisting with preparation for summer camps, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED, with two to three years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheet, database and electronic mail software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of database and desktop publishing software.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements


  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Flexibility desired to work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
