Position Summary
The UNC Department of Medicine and Blood Research Center seek exceptional candidates for a fixed-term position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Division of Hematology. The successful candidate will be a creative scientist focusing on translational or basic research in sickle cell disease. This position will complement the established research programs in the UNC Blood Research Center, a multi-disciplinary research unit composed of faculty from a variety of different UNC School of Medicine Departments, including faculty from the Departments of Medicine, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Biochemistry and Biophysics. Ideally, candidates will also integrate with existing nephrology research activities and interests within the UNC Kidney Center focused on sickle cell nephropathy, iron metabolism and anemia amongst others. Appointment and rank in the department will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications. There are opportunities for teaching in the School of Medicine and the Graduate School.
 As this is an open rank posting, the candidate hired into this position could be hired into a fixed term faculty appointment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD, MD/PhD, or DVM/PhD degree.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates with interest and expertise in sickle cell disease and molecular mechanisms of sickle cell-associated vascular disease with an emphasis on nephropathy will be prioritized. Applicants should have a strong record of recent accomplishments as a post-doctoral fellow or sustained productivity as an established faculty member.
