As a faculty member in the special education department at the University of Alaska Southeast your experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds with varying abilities in P-12, including utilizing multiple assessments and universally designing curriculum, will inform your practice as you teach courses with a focus on evidence-based practices, inclusive education, and strategies for supporting students with exceptionalities. Your experiences in post-secondary education will provide scaffolding to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for pre- and in service educators. You will develop culturally responsive curriculum while engaging in service to the community and university enabling you to make contributions throughout Alaska including the many school districts and communities across the state.

To thrive in this role, you will have experience and expertise in Pre-K-12 learning, demonstrate ongoing assessment and instructional design for diverse learners, knowledge of university assessment systems and meeting accreditation standards, ability to recruit, supervise, advise, and mentor for our special education programs and demonstrate excellence in teaching in higher education (e.g., peer evaluations, student evaluations, letter from supervising professor). Additionally, experience teaching/working in linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse settings, with a preference for specific experience and expertise working with indigenous communities is highly valued.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field (advanced ABD with an earned doctorate at the time of appointment will be considered).
Minimum of three years of experience teaching in the field of special education in a public school classroom with diverse populations

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau, Alaska and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, tenure-track position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
