ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is recruiting for a physician-scientist (MD or MD/Ph.D.) engaged in basic and/or clinical science research who will play a leadership role in our MD/Ph.D. program.  Candidates must demonstrate a strong potential to conduct independent, NIH-funded research. They will be appointed to a clinical or basic science department at the Associate or Full Professor of Medicine level, depending on the research area of interest and experience.  Excellent space and a generous start-up package will be provided.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The MD-PhD Program at the University of South Florida is a combined degree program that integrates medical school training with biomedical research, leading to a combined MD/PhD degree. The program is designed to prepare students to become physician-scientists who will significantly contribute to the understanding and improvement of human health.  Students pursue their research interests in the basic science and clinical departments and institutes of the Morsani College of Medicine and Moffitt Cancer Center.  The Director will have primary responsibility for all aspects of the MD/PhD program, including recruitment & admission, enrollment & progression, curriculum integration, alumni engagement, fiscal management, and data & reporting. The position will be supported by a strong administrative team including an MD/Ph.D. Administrative Program Manager and will work jointly with the Department of Medical Education and the Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs, along with other key stakeholders, such as Moffitt Cancer Center. The successful candidate will bring an innovative perspective to developing and implementing strategies to grow the program toward the goal of a successful MSTP application.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Department of Medical Education and the Office of Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs, develop and implement policies and procedures related to student onboarding, program progression, extracurricular programming, budget, etc., ensuring that all policies and procedures are aligned with national standards and university guidelines.
  • Implement curricular and extracurricular activities that create a cohesive, integrated dual-degree program and foster student engagement and success across all program phases.
  • Advise enrolled students throughout their enrollment.   
  • Manage program budget, including stipends, tuition waivers, travel awards, marketing materials, etc.
  • Engage regularly with departmental stakeholders, program committees, and national/international organizations to ensure the program remains current and competitive within the MD-PhD landscape.
  • Draft and submit the T32 application to convert the program to a federally funded MSTP.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. 
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.


PREFERRED:

  • MD/PhD degree
  • Experience with MSTP programs
