Description

Job Title: Open Rank Clinical Professor Series/FCB Compass Guide

Position # 00820877:  – Requisition #: 33002

Job Summary:

In order to support students in maximizing their personal and professional development, each student in the Trek curriculum will be paired with a COMPASS Guide for all 4 years of medical school. The COMPASS Guide will serve at times as a mentor, advisor, and  coach. COMPASS Guides will be considered core faculty in the Trek curriculum and will be the primary faculty for the COMPASS Program which is a 4-year program that emphasizes COaching, Mindful reflection, Professional Identity Formation, Assessment, Self-directed learning, and Self-Care.

Core faculty influence and shape student’s learning environment and their professional identity formation and therefore will be held to the highest professional standards.  Although coaching is central to the Guide’s job, they will also be responsible for other tasks in the curriculum. The Guides will meet individually with all students, observe and provide feedback on clinical skills during the second year, monitor the student’s academic, professional and personal progress, participate in the competency committees and teach elsewhere in the Trek curriculum.

The position will be a part-time position initially with 0.2 FTE as compensation with a rate of $26,500 per .1 FTE ( $53,000 for .2 FTE). Highlight 5-7 key responsibilities for the role.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching :

  • Address immediate student issues, including off hours concerns in emergent situations
  • Document all meetings with students
  • Keep in close contact with the Office of Student Life with any concerns about students
  • Write letters of recommendation for curricular, post-graduate, and extra-curricular
  •     opportunities (e.g. scholarships; research projects; applications to additional graduate programs)
  • Work with the Office of Student Life in crafting the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) for graduating students applying to residency positions
  • Assist students with completion of administrative obligations

Teaching :

  • Teach in other clinical and professional identity formation small group sessions during the 3rd  and 4th  year of medical school

Assessment:

  • Directly observe and provide feedback to (non-coach cohort) students performing clinical skills 2-3 times per year in the 2nd  and 3rd  year of medical school

Competency Committee:

  • Participate in competency committees to oversee student progress through the curriculum
  • For students they coach, the guide would be responsible for summarizing the student’s progress but would not vote
  • For students they don’t coach, the guide would be a voting member of the committee reviewing the student’s progress and determining readiness to advance
  • Competency committees will meet twice per year

Community building :

  • Attend 1st  year student orientation, expected one full day commitment and one half-day commitment
  • Attend college social events three times per year

Required Faculty Development :

  • Attend faculty development sessions and Guide check-ins 2x per month
