Summary : 

These faculty physicians will be responsible for providing non-emergent primary care/emergency/specialty/general surgery medical care at one or more designated community facility(s) and/or through telemedicine or other virtual health delivery technologies. Ensures organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. These clinicians will be responsible for all patient care activities related to board certification/licensure which may include chronic care management, acute care, and care coordination. As applicable to board certification/licensure, these clinicians will practice general surgery, emergency medicine, specialty care or comprehensive primary care medicine including the provision of women’s health and some office-based procedures. At this time, all faculty appointments in the College of Medicine are non-tenure track. The College of Medicine anticipates being able to make tenure track positions available for application in the future.

This position will also contribute to the educational mission of University of Houston College of Medicine both in Clinic and through facilitation of team-based learning sessions and didactic sessions for medical students in other pre-clerkship medical school courses.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Support the mission, vision, values, and standards. Identify and articulate the vision and strategic direction for the Clinical Operations.
  • Work closely with Practice Administrator of Ambulatory Care Services to cultivate a uniform culture and work toward achieving desired outcomes.
  • Relate to the Chief of Staff according to medical staff by-laws.
  • Engage and keep involved in local and health system decision making.
  • Attend designated meetings, and maintain active participation in medical staff committees.
  • Provide non-emergent/emergent/specialty medical care at one or more designated community facility(s) or through telemedicine or other virtual health delivery technologies.
  • Assist with the development of local performance improvement plans.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper customary documentation in all patient records and medication lists. Responsible for selection of patients that need consultation with specialists when required. All documentation will be in the electronic medical record system.
  • Promote and foster interdisciplinary approach to health services delivery across the care continuum. Collaborate with other departments and external contemporaries to provide a culture of patient safety.
  • Identify appropriate controls and compliance issues for service. Assure that patient care services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the State Department of Health Services, and other regulatory agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
  • All other duties as assigned and agreed by medical staff and executive leadership.

Salary and rank commensurate with academic achievements and experience.

Qualifications

: 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology or applicable specialty
  • All applicants must be medical specialty board eligible or have medical specialty board certification. Medical specialty board certification is expected within 18 months of employment with the University of Houston College of Medicine. 
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record

Preferred Qualifications :

  • At least 3-5 years clinical experience
  • Experience with inter-professional teams
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic or Chinese
