Position Summary
This position works with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the School of Education to promote standards for quality in online and hybrid education through the optimal use of instructional technology, course design, and delivery methods. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assists in the planning, development, design, execution, and evaluation of the School of Education’s online and hybrid offerings.
  • Plans, develops, and facilitates online learning professional development for SOE faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates the development and updating of guidelines and protocols, such as Quality Matters.
Conditions of Employment
  • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education, Distance Learning or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience in higher education.
  • Experience in facilitating faculty professional development in eLearning in the higher ed environment.
  • Experience with course management and virtual classroom software (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, Panopto, Zoom).
  • Knowledge of the Quality Matters assessment tool.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the pedagogies associated with the effective use of learning technologies, and knowledge of instructional technology trends and applications.
  • Demonstrated strong instructional, analytical, and problem-solving skills, particularly pertaining to information literacy and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the implementation of new technologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development, online education, and course development.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the proven ability to solve complex problems.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations, and facilitate meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and articulate policies, procedures, expectations, and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment, based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specific experience with the development of online, hybrid, and executive education courses.
