Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Public Safety is in need of a temporary, part-time Office Assistant to work within the Building Security Services (BSS) unit, whose team is responsible for key access to buildings on campus. Duties include answering phones, relaying messages to proper BSS staff, and assisting the university community with questions regarding their work orders and access requests. The incumbent will manage BSS key and card distribution, schedule appointments and make proper notifications to all BSS administrative and senior staff. Additional duties include updating the database by removing returned key information from the system and verify key/lock problems. The position is approximately 29 hours per week, possibly increasing to 40 hours. Required workdays are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

High School Diploma or GED
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, spell accurately, and write legibly; to communicate effectively; to operate manual and automated office equipment and keyboards; to file documents according to alphabetic and numeric sequences; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively; to maintain effective work relationships; to perform arithmetic computations

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
