Position Summary
The Biology Department at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Ocean Science Education Coordinator’s position.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in STEM or STEM-education related field. Other undergraduate degrees considered with appropriate work experience.
Minimum Required Experience
Two years of additional experience, for example in education, teaching, research, project coordination, online communication, or undergraduate student engagement.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Marine or Ocean Science. Experience leading organized undergraduate student groups or mentoring.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able and willing to travel locally and nationally, possibly including research at sea.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Marine Science Program Director in coordination of marine science program, including interaction with program.
  • Enhance recruitment and retention in the broader ocean sciences and in specifically in the marine and environmental science programs at JSU, including increasing membership in the Ocean Exploration Club.
  • Plan and execute virtual and face-to-face interactions among multi-disciplinary group of JSU students to cultivate curiosity and foster interest in ocean science careers.
  • Develop materials and resources to communicate with students and members of the public through social media, online, oral, and physical media ranging from local to national conferences and by interacting with a variety of K-12 students, teachers, and the public.
  • Interacts with existing program partners and assists in engaging now partners from academia, nonprofit, and industry on a recurring basis by providing feedback, taking minutes, and collaborating with the Marine Science Program Director.
  • Streamline implementation of CCME-II and OECI Programs through regular administrative tasks.
