General: California State University, Fresno is one of 23 campuses in the California State University System. The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (JCAST) is one of eight colleges / schools at Fresno State. The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is one of six departments in JCAST. Students majoring within the department are prepared for a wide range of professions in the nutrition field and food industry. Located within the center of the world's most productive growing and processing region, the department is ideally situated to provide students with both a strong academic and practical experience.

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition at California State University, Fresno invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. Teaching responsibilities would include undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Nutritional Science and Dietetics Program and/or related face to face and online undergraduate and graduate courses in the department. The faculty are expected to provide academic and professional/career advising, supervise research projects, theses, and senior projects for undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, develop an externally funded research program, involve student participation in their research, and participate in service activities both within and beyond the campus community as well as involvement in professional organizations. The candidate should have an established research interest in nutrition science or related fields and develop a plan for continuation of research.  Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Qualifications:

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D or related terminal degree) in Nutritional Science or closely-related disciplines (including but not limited to nutrition, biochemistry, genetics, or biology) from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required.
  • Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2024
  • Required Experience:

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research related to human metabolism regulation, epigenetics, gut microbiome, or environmental nutrition is essential. This should include a strong publication record and a demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
  • Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field is highly preferred. This experience should include a significant contribution to research projects and the development of research skills.
  • Experience in integrating sustainability principles into curriculum development and research is a strong asset. Candidates with a background in sustainable nutrition practices and education are encouraged to apply.

    Commensurate with education and experience the anticipated hiring range is $7,400-$7,700 per month for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per academic year).  As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.
