Job Summary

Involves the design and delivery of ambulatory clinical nursing care (primarily nursing), professional / leadership development programs, policies, activities, assessment tools, and systems. Integrates compliance and regulatory standards in programs and operations.  Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership to tailor programs and resources based on needs assessments. Meets the diverse requirements of the ambulatory practices, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization / health system. Includes review and evaluation of healthcare regulatory compliance controls and programs.

Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or oversees the implementation of new programs.

Department Description

The Ambulatory Clinical Resource Team is a clinical support department for all ambulatory practices on the three campuses, satellites and community networks. The department ensures all ambulatory clinics are meeting quality, compliance and regulatory requirements; develops and provides ambulatory specific training programs for clinical staff; develops protocols, procedures and clinical workflows; promotes nursing practice and Magnet re-designation status and acts as a clinical resource to the Ambulatory enterprise.   Refer to scope of job above for specific details.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in nursing, some ambulatory experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills / competency learning and leadership development.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to participate in the development and delivery of new education and training programs and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skill to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Advanced skills in written and verbal communications to convey the most complex clinical, technical, and education and training information in a clear and concise manner, and to produce high-quality reports, documentation, and presentations.
  • Advanced knowledge of a broad spectrum of professional nursing practices and issues and in-depth knowledge in a clinical nursing specialty area.
  • Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess highly-complex and urgent problems to develop an expedient path of resolution.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with managers and staff at all levels and across the organization, and with representatives of external regulatory agencies. Skills in coaching and mentoring staff.
  • In-depth ability to collaborate effectively with senior staff and management across departments, providing advice and counsel on complex regulatory issues of functionality, efficiency, and program development.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of compliance and regulatory standards across the healthcare industry or in-depth knowledge within a specialty area.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health ambulatory locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience in a large academic medical setting and ambulatory care
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nursing program
  • Ambulatory Certified RN, or Certification in specialty area
  • Nursing Professional Development Certification
  • LEAN/KAIZEN training or certification

License/Certification

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification (BLS)
